The local government of Marikina through Task Force Market Zone ordered the closure of 47 market stalls in the city as it renewed its efforts to safeguard public health.
Task Force Market Zone headed by public market administrator Dr. Ramonito Viliran said non-compliance with basic requirements such as securing sanitation and health certificate, engineering permit, and business permit prompted the closure.
“Promoting food safety and preventing food-borne illnesses is at the core of our sanitation inspection thrust. Our local government takes the issue of public health seriously and is relentless in enforcing regulations governing the responsible operation of market stalls,” Viliran noted.
He added that violators have 15 days to obtain the necessary documents to be able to resume operations. “We also urge them to upgrade their facilities in ways that enhance the quality of their products and services,” Viliran said.
Task Force Market Zone aims to complete the monitoring of some 800 stalls at the Marikina Public Market as well as in the market zone by the end of November.
The team is composed of personnel from the Marikina Public Market, City Health Office, Business Permits and Licensing Office, City Veterinary Services Office, City Environmental Management Office, City Engineering Office, and Bureau of Fire-Marikina City. |
