Marikina Mayor Marides Fernando will lead local officials in the ceremonial lighting of the city’s first-ever mechanical Christmas display on Nov. 10, 6 p.m., at the Marikina City Hall.
Dubbed “Marikit na Pasko sa Marikina,” the animated display features traditional scenes that make the Christmas celebration in the Philippines truly unique. It is inspired by the historic Christmas tableaux at the COD Department Store whose innovative depiction of the beloved occasion drew crowds during the holiday season.
The event will also include the premiere of a 20-minute feature film titled “Marikit na Pasko sa Marikina,” as well as a storytelling session led by Fernando. A fireworks display will cap the event.
In a statement, Fernando said Marikina’s animated Christmas display reflects Filipinos’ generosity and unity and the re-birth of kinship and bayanihan which were “palpable in the aftermath of Tropical Storm ‘Ondoy.’ We pay tribute to those traits through a dazzling display that evokes joy, gratitude, and hope.”
The mechanical Christmas display will come to life ten times every night beginning at 6:30 p.m. |
