Marikina conducts city-wide pet registration

Aimed at keeping a rabies-free city, the local government of Marikina will spearhead an annual city-wide pet registration from August 10 to October 2. Facilitated by the City Veterinary Office (CVO), the project will be held in all barangays of the city except Brgy. Tumana which is classified as community area where rearing of pets is not allowed. The project will cater to some 15,000 dogs and cats that will also be given free anti-rabies vaccines. According to CVO, this annual project aims to ensure a rabies-free Marikina and foster responsible pet ownership among the residents. CVO advised the pet owners to bring the following requirements during registration: (for new applicants) 3-R photo of the pet showing its whole body, 2x2 photo of the pet owner, and PhP 75 registration fee; and (for renewal) previous registration documents and PhP 75 registration fee. Pets that were already given anti-rabies vaccine by private veterinary clinics prior to registration must present a certificate of vaccination. Meanwhile, City Veterinarian Dr. Manuel Carlos reminds the residents that rearing of all kinds of pet animals in the community areas is prohibited as stipulated in City Ordinance 67, Series 2007. "Since these community areas are highly populated areas, rearing of any kind of pet animals in such places may pose health hazards to the residents," Carlos said.
