Marikina gets two new fire trucks
By: PIO | Posted: 10/24/2011
The local government of Marikina recently bought two powerful fire trucks to further enhance the city’s capability to battle fire and other calamities. The fire trucks were officially turned over to the Marikina’s Bureau of Fire Protection last Monday, October 17, during the employees’ and officials’ flag raising ceremony. A fire truck will be stationed on each of the two districts of Marikina . One will be placed at the Barangay Parang Fire Station while the other will be at the Central Fire Station in Barangay Sta. Elena. “It is a terrible experience to be a fire victim. It leaves a scar in one’s psyche. Thus, we should do everything possible to stop fire as soon as it starts,” De Guzman said. Meanwhile, as the Christmas season is approaching, De Guzman reminds the residents to be careful in buying and using Christmas lights and decorations as these are the most usual cause of fire during the season. It is recommended to limit the use of Christmas lights and avoid keeping them turned on during the whole night so it will not cause overheating and short circuits. Moreover, residents are warned about buying cheap and substandard Christmas lights. It is advised to look for the Philippine Standards (PS) and Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) marks. “It would be better if the residents only buy Christmas lights that have been checked by the government. The residents’ cooperation on this would help keep the Christmas season peaceful and disaster-free,” De Guzman added.
