381st Marikina Founding Anniversary

The city of Marikina will commemorate its 381st founding anniversary on April 16. Highlights of the celebration are the weeklong schedule of activities launched formally during the flag-raising ceremony last April 11 at the Freedom Park, Brgy. Sta. Elena, Marikina. Activities last April 11 included the turn-over Ceremony of Ka-Angkan Festival’s Hermano and Hermana Mayor; launching of the free Summer Sports Camp at the Marikina Sports Park; inauguration of Foundation Week Market at the Plaza delos Alcaldes; and the Karunungan Caravan tour around the city’s first district. Other activities included inter-barangay dance contests at the Freedom Park last April 12-13 and April 16; inauguration of the organic garden in Green Street, Brgy. Concepcion Dos on April 13; groundbreaking ceremonies of the materials recovery facility of Brgy. Tañong; and the blessing of Marikina East Park on April 14. Climax of the weeklong festivity are activities on April 15 and 16, which include the groundbreaking rites for the Legislative Building, the foot parade, the foundation day celebration at the Marikina Sports Park, and the coronation for the Ms. Marikina pageant at Teatro Marikina; while activities on April 16 include a Holy Mass at J. dela Peña Chapel, Convention Against Illegal Drugs at Teatro Marikina, and Piknikan sa Roman Garden at the River Park. Marikina Mayor Del De Guzman encourages every Marikeño to be one with the city in celebrating another momentous event. Founded on April 16, 1630, Marikina City has gone a long way. Marikina is now a multi-awarded city with a vibrant economy, highly-skilled workforce and responsive officials that bank on the finest leadership and public service.
