Marikina today is a symbol of urban renewal after its transformation from a neglected natural resource into a resurrected tributary – now considered as the biggest sports and recreational park in the country
in a natural setting. It serves as the focal point of our city’s tourism program. It spells magical transformation never before known and experienced at least in the Philippines. No doubt, it has become

hopeless and lifeless river with garbage dumped on it. Its transformation into a sports and recreational center (the biggest in the country today in a natural setting) provides a tangible proof that saving a river is no easy task but its not an impossible feat. Its rehabilitation had brought our city in the limelight of lifetime awards and achievements both in international and local arena. It is also the venue of the Marikina Christmas festival every December and landmarks such as the Animal Trail, Chinese Pagoda, Roman Garden, River Carabaos, Skating rink and the Youth Camp.
