True to Mayor Marcy Teodoro’s commitment to support the LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) community, Marikina City will host anew the Metro Manila Pride, which will take place tomorrow, Saturday, at the city’s famed sports center.

During the Sagayla Festival celebration in May this year, Mayor Marcy announced that Marikina was willing to host again this year’s Pride March. Marikina first hosted the event in June last year, which drew 7,700 individuals and 150 organizations.

Hosting the Pride March is Marikina's and Mayor Marcy's way of expressing their support to the rights of individuals regardless of their sexual orientation and gender.

This year, the LGBTQ plus community expects 10,00 individuals and 200 organizations will join the event, which will commence at the Marikina Sports Center from 12 noon. The much-awaited parade will begin at 4 in the afternoon at the entrance of the sports complex and will traverse to Calumpang and back to the stadium.

Programs featuring songs and dances are in store, as well as colorful shirts, costumes featuring the rainbow color and other colors of the diverse community.

This year’s theme is “Rise Up Together,” an ode to the community’s struggle for respect, equality and freedom to get married. The LGBTQ plus community earlier this month attended the deliberations on same-sex marriage at the Supreme Court.

Organizers of the event are calling everyone -- gays of all colors and stripes, straights, young and old, Marikenos and from other cities – to join and have fun while showing their solidarity with the LGBTQ plus community.
