The shoemakers of Marikina will be holding different trade fairs in various cities in Metro Manila upon the invitation of other local government units, proof that when it comes to shoes and other leather goods, the city’s products remain unrivaled.

On May 21 to June 10, around 48 manufacturers will be selling their footwear and other leather goods in Muntinlupa as part of the southern city’s “Back to School” fair, says Noel Box, head of the Marikina Shoe Industry Development Office (MASIDO).

The bazaar will be held in four different areas in Muntinlupa as follows:

·      Liwasan ng Mga Bayani from May 21 to 28;

·      City Quadrangle from May 29 to June 1;

·      Muntinlupa Sports Complex from June 2 to 6; and,

·      Sucat Brgy. Hall from June 7 to 10.

The Municipality of Muntinlupa will shoulder the costs of putting up tents and booths where the shoemakers will be displaying and selling their products, says Box.

The shoes will be sold at factory prices, that is, at least 30 percent lower than the retail prices on malls and other retailers, Box adds.

The bazaar follows a similar event in the last week of January this year, during which 20 of Marikina’s shoe manufacturers sold their products in Muntinlupa for three days. The post-Christmas bazaar was such a hit that the City Government of Muntinlupa once again invited the Marikina shoemakers.

The success of the January bazaar also inspired other manufacturers in Marikina to join this month’s fair.

Aside from Muntinlupa, seven other LGUs in Metro Manila have invited the shoemakers in Marikina for their own “Balik Eskwela” bazaar. These LGUs are: Caloocan, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Navotas, San Juan, Taguig and Valenzuela.
