Mayor Marcy Teodoro assures investors who want to put up businesses in Marikina that the City Government will provide the “most ideal business environment possible.”

Marikina has been attracting a number of industries including shopping malls such as SM and Ayala, BPOs, restaurants, fast food chains, banks, car dealers and a lot more, lured by Marikina’s growing number of middle and upper class consumers who can afford their products and the ease of doing business in the city.

Businesses are coming to Marikina even if the City Government does not offer any tax incentive, Mayor Marcy says.

“We cannot afford it (extending tax incentives). How can we afford it? But I can assure investors that we will provide the most ideal business environment possible. There is no red tape,” says Mayor Marcy.

The City Government has cut the number of steps for getting business permits and other forms of transactions to make it easier for businessmen. Business permits can be obtained from the City Hall within 15 minutes, while the process of getting business permits have been cut to just two steps from seven before.

Marikina is known as the “Shoe Capital of the Philippines.” But in recent years, it was able to attract different types industries owing to the ease of doing business, the city's peace and order situation, its clean environment with streets sweepers cleaning streets, parks and waterways round the clock.

The City Government under Mayor Marcy's leadership aims to attract more investors in Marikina to boost the domestic economy, increase revenue collections to finance public infrastructure projects and to provide jobs to more Marikinos.
