Mayor Marcy Teodoro today suspended classes in all levels in both public and private schools in Marikina tomorrow, Monday, as rains continue due to “habagat” even as tropical storm Karding has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

All primary and secondary streets in Marikina are now passable, though the roads under the Marikina Bridge and Marcos Bridge are still not passable.

As of 11:00 this morning, the water level at the Marikina River has fallen to 16.5 meters after climbing above 20 meters last night as Karding exacerbated the rains brought about by habagat. As the river rose to third alarm levels and streets were deeply flooded, the City Government enforced a forced evacuation yesterday to keep Marikenos safe.

The government has set up evacuation centers, while rescuers were busy all night long keeping people out of danger and transferring them to evacuation centers.

Mayor Marcy himself was up all night monitoring the situation, manning the command center at the Rescue 161 headquarters, rescuing people caught in floods and in general keeping people and the communities safe.

The Mayor also made rounds and visited communities last night including Brgy. Concepcion Dos to personally check the situation and the condition of Marikenos. Along the way, he picked up residents who wanted to seek temporary shelter in evacuation centers set up in various schools and gyms in the city.
