An Australian entrepreneur visited Marikina City recently to scout for shoe manufacturers that she could work with for her planned shoe business in her home country.

Sarah Marriott, an Australian national, was in Marikina on January 25 to look for Philippine-based footwear manufacturers that she could collaborate with for her “Goodboy Shoes” brand in Australia.

Sarah met with officials of the Marikina Shoe Industry Development Office (MASIDO) including its officer-in-charge Noel Box and consultant Cla Martinez Badong, who gave her and her companions a glimpse of the shoe industry in Marikina. They also referred her and even accompanied her to visit some of the shoe factories in the city.

"Maraming nagpupunta rito na mga interesadong magnegosyo ng sapatos at naghahanap ng supplier o kaya ay magiging collaborator na mga manufacturers. Kami naman, hinahanapan namin sila ng manufacturer ayon sa kanilang requirements," said Mr. Box in an interview.

Meeting with Sarah and referring her to Marikina shoemakers who met her requirements and needs of her planned business is part of MASIDO’s Business Matching and Business Counseling Program. Sarah inquired about the shoe manufacturers in Marikina and made an appointment with MASIDO as early as November last year.

Sarah is the latest among a string of entrepreneurs from overseas to visit Marikina looking for shoemakers and suppliers. Earlier this month, a businessman from Japan was also in town to look for shoe suppliers for a planned online store that would be based in Japan.
