Since he was elected as Mayor of Marikina City more than two years ago, Mayor Marcy Teodoro has made education a priority in his administration. He also believes that education is a right and not a privilege.

First up in his agenda right after his election to office was to grant free tuition fees for students studying at the government-owned Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina (PLMAR). This was implemented in 2017 and is now being enjoyed by PLMar students for a second year this 2018.

“Nais kong mabigyan ng patas na oportunidad ang bawat kabataang Marikenyo sa pamamagitan ng libreng edukasyon sa PLMar,” Mayor Marcy said.

Aside from free tuition fee, Mayor Marcy also wants to make sure that PLMar students will have a pleasant environment for studying. With the 200 percent rise in the number of enrollees for first year college at PLMar, Mayor Marcy decided to build more classrooms so that the students won’t be packed like sardines inside their classrooms.

The City Government of Marikina is now constructing phases two and three of new school buildings at the PLMar SSS campus.

Mayor Marcy believes that by finishing a college education, the youth of Marikina would have a brighter future. They can also help their families once they finish college and get a job.

Students at PLMar, earlier interviewed for an article, were grateful to the City Government of Marikina and especially to Mayor Marcy for giving them the chance to pursue their dream of getting a college education and help their families someday.
