Among the city governments that offered prompt assistance to communities hit by a magnitude 6.5 earthquake in Cotabato City and its neighboring provinces was the Local Government of Marikina.

Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro ordered to ship 100 of its modular tents to the families affected by the earthquake, Thursday morning, October 31.

“After learning of what happened to Cotabato, I ordered my staff to prepare 100 of our tents to give to Cotabato. What happened to them was very unfortunate so we are extending our help to the people of Cotabato,” said Mayor Marcy in a statement.

There have been a series of strong earthquakes in just a span of three weeks in several areas in Mindanao that caused damages in infrastructures, left trauma to affected families and killed at least 17 people based on the latest reports.

As a support to the victims and extend disaster relief efforts, the Local Government of Marikina donated 100 modular tents to Cotabato, Saturday, November 2.

These modular tents were the same tents that served as temporary shelter to victims of floods in the City where each can accommodate at least seven people. These tents have closed sides to give privacy to evacuees while the top is open to allow airflow.

Mayor Marcy wants to provide privacy and comfort for families while they stay at evacuation centers despite their circumstances or loss, the reason why these modular tents were acquired by the local government of Marikina in 2018.

Mayor Marcy announced the donation of tents during the turnover ceremony of ambulances to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) at the City Hall last Friday.
