As the school year is just around the corner, the Marikina City government headed by Mayor Marcy Teodoro in cooperation with the Marikina Shoe Industry Development Office (MASIDO) opens this year’s back-to-school program with the 9th Balik Eskwela Gamit Sapatos Marikina Trade Fair.
The back to school shoe bazaar exhibits 47 local manufacturers of footwear and leather goods who have set up stalls in Marikina’s Freedom Park near the City Hall.
“Bukod sa pagtulong sa mga magulang na makabili ng mura at de kalidad na sapatos, ginagawa rin natin ito para makatulong sa mga maliliit na negosyante para sila ay kumita at magpatuloy sa paggawa ng sapatos,” said Noel Box, officer in charge of MASIDO.
The Balik Eskwela Shoe Bazaar reaches out to bargain-hunters, parents, and students who are looking for high-quality and durable shoes and bags at a discounted price. The shoe bazaar also aims to help Marikina shoemakers to sell their products and in the hopes of boosting the local shoe industry.
The annual shoe trade fair offers a 30 to 40 percent discount on school, office and casual shoes made of synthetic and genuine leather. The price ranges from as low as P300 to as high as P1,500 a pair.
School and office bags are also being sold at the trade fair from P400 to P1,800.
Senior citizens, persons with disabilities and all national and local government employees can enjoy an exclusive 10% discount on shoes and bags.
“Inabangan ko talaga ito kasi mas mura at genuine iyong leather na ginamit sa paggawa,” said Manuel Constantino, a resident from Barangay Malanday who bought a pair of school shoes on Tuesday for his 11-year-old son who will enter Grade 6 at Malanday Elementary School next week.
The Local Government of Marikina expects that the back to school shoe bazaar will continue to be successful every year and more people will patronize the City’s local shoe manufacturers.
Mayor Marcy gives much effort to develop even more and bring back to life the shoe industry as this is part of Marikina’s rich culture.
The Balik Eskwela Trade Fair will run until July 7. The bazaar is open from Monday to Thursday at 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM and from Friday to Sunday at 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Parking spaces are available around Freedom Park with a P30 flat rate for those who will be bringing their cars.
