The leather goods manufacturers of Marikina plans to form their own independent group and have sought the assistance of the Marikina Shoe Industry Development Office (MASIDO) on how to go about it.

The planned organization will be separate from the shoe or footwear manufacturers in Marikina.

The manufacturers of bags, wallets, belts, leather craft and other accessories want to form their own organization so that their needs and issues can be addressed properly. They said their needs and issues are different from the footwear manufacturers, who have their own organization.

Aside from its primary product -- shoes -- Marikina is also noted for the fine craftsmanship of bags, belts, wallets and other accessories made from leather. Marikina has been known as the Shoe Capital of the Philippines because it was here where the first pair of shoes was created in 1887.
