Be ready to be enchanted as the City Government of Marikina is now busy preparing for the festivities happening in the last two months of the year that will give visitors an unforgettable and dazzling experience.

This time, the spotlight will be on the city’s rich culture and heritage, high quality shoes, sumptuous food, and a lot more.

Billed as “Experience Marikina,” the two-month celebration aims to give visitors a taste of Marikina’s culture, heritage, history, food, shoes and other leather craft. It will also highlight the importance played by the family in advancing the society and the spirit of unity that is the main driver of the city’s march towards progress.

Starting November 12, the city, known as the Shoe Capital of the Philippines, will celebrate the Sapatos Festival that will showcase the country’s shoes and leather craft industry and its main products – shoes, bags, belts, wallets and other accessories. There will be a bazaar at the Freedom Park where 48 manufacturers will be selling their products known for their quality craftsmanship, durability, and affordability.

The famous Tour de Takong where participants will be required to wear stilettos as they race towards the finish line, will also be another highlight of the Sapatos Festival.

The Sapatos Festival will run from November 12 until January 6, during which other celebrations in Marikina will also take place including the Rehiyon-Rehiyon Festival, Cityhood Celebration, and the Christmas Festival.

This year’s Rehiyon-Rehiyon Festival, which will be celebrated on December 9, will have the theme – “Sa Pag-ibig, Pinag-isa” – and will honor the Marikeños who came from other provinces and cities of the country and chose to settle in Marikina. A parade of students from different schools in Marikina wearing colorful costumes and representing the different regions in the Philippines will be one of the highlights of the festival.

Before that, on December 8, Marikina will mark its 22nd year as a city. It will also usher in the start of the Christmas Festival. Among the activities lined up for the Christmas Festival include a concert featuring popular Filipino celebrities and bands, a fireworks display and a "tiangge" at the Marikina River Park.
