“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa LGBTQ+ community dahil binibigyan nila ng kulay ang ating lungsod. Naipapakita natin na at the end of the day, we are all equally created,” said Mayor Marcy as he proudly supports the LGBTQ+ as a straight ally.
The 12-meter symbolic monument that stands firm at the Cityhood Park lit up to illuminate the rainbow colors that represent the LGBTQ+ minority group and their contribution to the society.
The Cityhood Park monument signifies the aspirations of Marikina City and the struggles and triumphs of the city’s forebearers.
“Isang malaking karangalan na dito natin ilulunsad ang ceremonial lighting of LGBTQ+ colors. At the same time, gusto natin palakasin ang ating institusyon na may malaking pagsuporta sa pagkapantay-pantay ng bawat isa,” said Mayor Marcy.
The Local Government of Marikina ensures that there is a safe and equal space for all gender orientation and preferences. Mayor Marcy believes that the LGBTQ+ community should have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else, free from gender-related discrimination and violence.
