Safe Blood For All: Marikina Seeks New Record for Mass Blood Donation

In celebration of National Blood Donor’s Month, the Marikina City Government as headed by Mayor Marcy Teodoro, the City Health Office and the Philippine Blood Center will hold a one-day citywide mass blood donation event with a theme, “Safe Blood for All,” on Sunday, July 28, from 8:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon at the Marikina Convention Center in Brgy. Concepcion Dos. 

Marikina hopes to break the current record by collecting at least a thousand blood bags in the upcoming blood donation drive.

Mayor Marcy urged Marikeños to take part in making another local history and extending help to those in need. In addition to the health benefits of donating blood such as lowering the risk of heart attack and less likely to get stroke and cancer.

Blood donations poses a big help to those in need because a bag of blood can benefit three patients already.

Mayor Marcy understands the importance of communities having access to enough and safe supply of blood in the country’s blood bank.

Marikeños ages between 16 to 65 years old can donate blood. They must be at least be 50 kilos, physically and mentally fit, has no fever, high blood pressure and diabetes.

City Hall officials are going to every barangay in Marikina offering free shuttle services from the barangay hall to the venue and back to those who will be participating in the donation drive.
