The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) plans to put up a shared facility for food manufacturers in Marikina City next year, said Jeanette Lee, president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Marikina.

Mayor Marcy Teodoro, who supports the DTI's "Go Lokal!" program, wants to spur the local food industry to give more jobs to Marikenos and improve the domestic economy. The "Go Lokal!" program aims to encourage Filipinos to buy and consume locally-made products.

“Ang plano ng DTI is to have the shared facility here in Marikina. Procurement na sila by the end of this year. Baka next year available na iyan,” said Jeanette in an interview. “It will probably be housed sa Marikina Polytechnic College dahil dapat may food tech course sa state university where it will be located. Iyon ang requirement.”

The shared facility will house equipment and machines that will be available for use by food manufacturers. There will be equipment and facilities for making chocolates, baking breads and cakes, dried snacks, canned goods, and a lot more food products, said Jeanette.

“Ang maganda rito sa shared facility natin may chocolate line. From cacao, makakagawa ka na ng chocolate bars. Makakapili ka kung ano ang gusto mong grade ng cacao. You can choose from dark to milk chocolate. Makakagawa ka rin ng cookies coated with chocolates dito,” Jeanette said.

The establishment of the shared facility is part of DTI’s plan to spur the food industry in Marikina.
