Brace yourselves and hold on to your stilettos tightly. Because tomorrow, Saturday, December 1, the eagerly anticipated Tour de Takong or Stiletto Race will take place in Marikina City. Attractive prizes await the winners.

Started in 2011, the race has attracted a following and a growing number of participants who will race to the finish line wearing high heels.

This unique event, which will showcase the strength and beauty of Marikina-made stiletto shoes, is open to all Filipinos, male and female, who are at least 18 years old. The participants can wear any kind and design of stiletto as long as the heels are at least three inches high. Wedges and Cuban heels are not allowed though.

The stilettos must not be taped to the feet and both heels must be intact at the start of the race until the runners cross the finish line.

Fantabulous prizes await the winners in the male and female categories: First place, P15,000; second place, P10,000; and third place, P8,000. Joining is free.

Check-in time is at 3:00 in the afternoon and the gun start will be at 4:30 pm. Participants may wear running shorts, tight leggings or anything fabulous, stylish and even unique. But they are encouraged to wear their profession’s uniform since there will be special awards to be given, including the first five finishers who are proudly wearing their work uniforms when they run for the race.

The starting line will be at the Teatro Marikina along Shoe Avenue and the finish line will be at the Cityhood Park.

The Tour de Takong is part of the celebration of the Sapatos Festival, which opened on November 12 and will last until January 6 of next year.
