Marikina held a cultural heritage mapping orientation recently as part of Mayor Marcy Teodoro’s project to document the heritage and history of the city known as the Shoe Capital of the Philippines.


The seminar -- conducted by experts in the field such as Professor Eric Zerrudo, director of UST Graduate School of Cultural Property and Environment in the Tropics – was attended by school teachers from Marikina and representatives from different communities in the city.

The participants in the seminar, notably the teachers, would be part of the team that would do an exhaustive research on culture, heritage and history of Marikina, where the country’s shoe industry started in 1887 under the stewardship of Don Laureano Guevara, better known as “Kapitan Moy
